The Light Fury is supposed to represent the "call of the wild" in the film and is supposed to be a the true wild, untainted dragon. The problems with the way females are often portrayed in cartoons is not something I want to get into right now, but the other problem, character theme, was actually more troublesome for me personally. She's clearly made to seem extremely effeminate-looking without any thought to whether or not that fit her character theme or the realistic biological world of dragons that have been created. On top of that, the Light Fury's design seems very backward-thinking and even counter to what she's supposed to represent. As it stands, Night Furies are for sure going extinct, and that's depressing. In fact, had Toothless met another Night Fury, the story would have felt more triumphant because then there would have been hope for his species. Having now seen the Light Fury in the film, it's clear they only made this dragon just so they give Toothless a mate who wasn't "just another Night Fury," and this added really nothing to the story aside from giving her a distinct visual appearance in their scenes together. Also, ever since the third movie's teaser trailers last summer, the dragon most people have been opinionated about is the Light Fury, and on this one my feelings are mixed but mostly lean negative.
